HEALTH COVERAGE FOUNDATION MAKES $100,000 GRANT TO WASHINGTON, DC HEALTH CLINIC TO ASSIST LOW-INCOME UNINSURED

WASHINGTON, DC -The Health Coverage Foundation announced today a one year grant to Community of Hope of $100,000 for outpatient mental health services to low income residents of the District.

Health care providers at Community of Hope expect to use the grant to provide care to over 1,700 additional visits to patients with incomes below 300 percent of the federal poverty level. The grant would allow Community of Hope to grow its mental health program by expanding their specialty staff to include a contract psychiatrist and additional case workers. The clinic will provide a range of psychiatric services on-site such as diagnostic assessment, therapy, and medication therapy to their already diverse patient base. The first check for $50,000 is being delivered today with an interim report due back to the Foundation within six months.

The HCF was founded by Mike and Marlys Bromberg. Mike Bromberg is Chairman of Capitol Health Group, a DC based health care lobbying firm representing health providers, drug companies, device manufacturers and benefit managers. Additional information about the Foundation, including the Board of Directors and the names of contributors to the Foundation, can be found at www.healthcoveragefoundation.org.

Community of Hope has provided health care, housing, and education to homeless and low-income families in the District of Columbia since 1980. Its family practice clinic in Adams Morgan (2250 Champlain St NW) provides over 11,000 medical visits and 2,500 dental visits per year.

This is the Foundation's first grant. Other projects in selected cities will follow in line with the Foundation's mission of providing education and coverage to low income uninsured families.

The Foundation accepts tax-deductible contributions by mail, in care of the following address: Health Coverage Foundation, 1100 New York Avenue, N.W., Suite 200M, Washington, DC  20005-6104.

An electronic photo will be available this afternoon at the Foundation website.
